Chairman’s Report May 2019

Dear Member

It doesn’t seem a year since I issued the last Chairman’s report, but they say that is due to getting older.

It has been another busy year since our last AGM and I must thank all of our Committee members for their hard work in making the year successful and the ABC Club stronger.

In July 2018 we were very pleased to welcome Glen Burley to our Open Evening and listen to a very interesting talk.  Indeed, we were blessed with excellent speakers throughout the last “Calendar of Events” with Sean Ramcharan who talked about Micro surgery, Deborah Smith from Macmillan in September, Gill from Flower Thyme who demonstrated wreath making for Christmas in November and this last March a super talk from Claire Clea about the history of Chemotherapy.  All gave their time free of charge for which we are most grateful.

In addition to the Open Evenings we saw around 60 members enjoy our regular Skittles Nights, 66 joined us for the Christmas Lunch, £306 was raised at the Harbury Coffee Morning and a full house of 66 at the Summer Tea Party.  Well done to everyone.

The main purpose of our Club is to aid recovery and wellbeing by arranging social events which I hope you agree we have done, and also to provide help and assistance to patients in need and this year we have continued to supply Continence aids, Pressure Cushions etc. and in addition we have offered funding for Psychological Support, One-to-one patient chat to a Committee member, we have even provided a small freezer for a patient to store a stock of Wiltshire Farm Foods.

To ensure patients/carers etc. can access information about the ABC Club we have introduced a new Website (www.warwickabc.co.uk) based on the very successful new Club leaflet we created a while ago.  Also, we now feature on the Hospital Visual display screens in the Aylesford Unit, the Outpatients Area and, I believe at Stratford.

We have always been compliant with the Hospital’s Patient Confidentiality rules but recently there have been a raft of new Government legislation known as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) this has meant that more paperwork had to be compiled to ensure we continue to incorporate these changes.

Thank you so much everyone for your continued support, without you the Club would not be as successful as it is.
